Description
Maslenitsa, the Russian Carnival, is probably the oldest Slavic festival still celebrated today. In these three works, the use and choice of colors changes.
The gymnasts' costumes stand out against the gray background, almost as if to emphasize their victory more than the medals they wear. The SAME red changes meaning and recalls the color of the blood shed by the victims, depicted as faceless specters, desecrated in their humanity and cruelly and brutally deprived of it. Finally, we arrive at the colorful world of celebration, celebrated with food and drink, amid free and spontaneous smiles, the serene gazes of those who rejoice and free their minds and hearts from all worries, even if only for a day.
