Description
Leshy, the Spirit of the Forest
Nature is the unseen protagonist of every fairy tale and myth. In ancient mythology, it was personified, thus amplifying its value and supernatural origin. The Earth, the Wind, the Sea... Divinity and Nature together in a mixture strongly felt and respected by man. In the painting depicting Leshy, we experience this: the spirit of the forest merges with it, taking on its appearance and dominating it at the same time with its imperious and harsh presence. Like Baba Yaga, Leshy also has a dual nature depending on the stories in which he appears: sometimes he is brutal and evil towards adventurers who cross the forest and towards children, while at other times he treats them with respect, which in turn respects the forest. The presence of the bear in Alexandr's painting echoes a certain strand of stories about this character, which depict him surrounded by packs of wolves or bears.
